About This Project

For this project, I was commissioned by a new start-up to create a builder for a "personalized magazine". The start-up was in a very early phase, so I worked as a self-contained design team of one.  I was the UX designer, researcher, graphic designer, and prototyper for the project.

The stakeholders wanted a tablet-based app that could produce the professional results of Adobe InDesign, but be easy to use for non-designers without special training.  Essentially, the goal was a digital scrapbook that didn't look cheesy.

My design was built as a proof of concept, prior to pursuing outside funding.  My deliverable was a completed design and click-through prototype, ready to be handed off to a developer.

My Process

Most of my earliest work for this project was done in Axure, starting by building the IA with flow charts to work out the various potential paths the user could take.

My chances to meet in person with the primary stakeholders were quite limited because they resided several states away most of the year.  After an initial in person meeting, most communication with the stakeholders was done remotely so visual aides like sketches were useful to clearly communicate potential strategy directions.

Wireframes were built in Axure, using their iOS widget.  After building the wireframes, I subjected them to a series of usability tests.  The results of the tests were then integrated into the final design.
