About This Project

This prototype was created for a competition among several Human Centered Design and Engineering students at University of Washington.
I completed a number of team projects within my my Master's program at UW, but this one still stands out to me as the most fun. While most projects in my career has taken place over the course of weeks to months, we were only given a couple hours to design this prototype. Nothing was precious and we couldn't get bogged down in the details with such short working time.
This was a unique project as several teams of students were pitted against each other. And instead of being judged by a subjective professor for a grade, we were judged against quantitative measurements of user success such as accuracy and time to completion.
The event included two rounds of design and two rounds of user testing. As a team of four, we largely shared the work of designing and building each element. In addition to sharing the job of designing the user experience, I ended up our group's default illustrator as well as it turned out I was the only one in our group with figure drawing experience.
After our team won the first round of user testing, we were given new instructions to add some "delight" to our design as well as an error message. Hence the unicorn. Our team went on to win both rounds of competition, allowing our users to compete error free coffee orders in the shortest amount of time.
